Dr. John Stephen Bailey's quest for education and excellence has taken him around the world to success internationally. Bailey has excelled in every endeavor he has taken on. In addition to the accomplishments listed here, Bailey holds both medical and dental doctorates.

As a soldier, Bailey served the United States Army. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry, upon graduation from Boston University in 1951. He became the Combat Infantry Officer, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division. He was awarded three Campaign Stars: Korea, Summer-Fall 1952; Third Korean Winter; and Korea, Summer 1953. Bailey was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and decorated for Valor by the governments of France, Korea, and the United States of America. During the Berlin Crisis, he was recalled to Active Duty as a Major, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., 1961-1962. He was promoted to Colonel in 1967.

As an educator, Bailey was Assistant to the President of Dean University College in Boston, Massachusetts, from 1957-1969; President of Nasson College in Maine from 1969-1975, President of the American College of Greece in Athens, Greece, and President of Attica Educational Foundation in Athens, Greece. As an educator, he touched the lives of more Greek students than any American educator in the history of Greece. He was trustees of: Lebanese American University, Beirut, Lebanon; Franklin College, Lugano, Switzerland; and John Cabot University, Rome, Italy. Bailey was President Emeritus, Association of American International Colleges and Universities, and a European Council Member of the International Association of University Presidents.

Bailey has received many honors and awards, including the Finis Engleman Award for Distinguished Leadership in International Higher Education from the Near East South Asia of Overseas Schools, New Delhi, India; the Leadership in International Education Award from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Athens, Greece; and the Leadership in International Education Award from the Institute of American Universities, Aix-en-Provence, France.

Bailey was initiated into Battle Green Chapter in Lexington, Massachusetts, in 1944. He served as Master Councilor 1945-1946. He received the Degree of Chevalier in 1948; he received the Legion of Honor in 1966. Bailey was inducted into the DeMolay Hall of Fame on June 13, 1997.
