Apollo-Soyuz mission: Acted as command module pilot on board Apollo
Spacecraft. Mission was first historic meeting in space between
American astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts.
STS-5 mission: Commanded STS-5, the first fully operational flight
of the Space Shuttle Transportation System. This mission was
flown in the Space shuttle Columbia.
STS-41-B mission: Commanded the Space Shuttle Challenger on the tenth
Space Shuttle flight. This eight day orbital flight culminated in the
first landing to the runway at the Kennedy Space Center.
